Rust repaired! It was a tiny bit of rust, and apparently the rust on the hatch and on the rear right quarter was just surface rust, which was a relief, but she’s back $951.63 CAD later.....bodywork around here is ridiculously expensive...

He was really thorough though. Added spaces to the rear bumper so it would no longer rub on the body (which the last shop failed to do, hence why it rubbed and turned into rust anyway...). Also sanded the pointy edge / put that clear 3M protective transparent plastic rock guard strip along the back edge of the trim piece that goes on the hatch so IT wouldn’t rub and cause more rust there again. Put a lot of undercoating sealant inside the rear hatch as well where some water had dripped in past the poorly painted holes for the license plate / trim piece screws that the last shop hadn’t actually painted the edges of (which had caused a bit of light surface rust inside the hatch) . That should stop anything going on in there too, hopefully!

Expensive, but I am happy to have my car back. :)

...and yes, I’ll be getting a new license plate soon as mine is in rough shape (the paint on the left is actually detatching....it was a known fault with E** *** series plates...)!

Coming from a guy who drives two BMWs lol . B ut yeah, i t didn’t cost that when someone hit the Odyssey last year to replace the rear right fender. Though it eventually total ed up with the wheel damage but yeah.

It costs ~ 3k, back in 2007 mind you, to fix the bumper and the rear hatch on my Explorer when I got rear ended. The lion’s share of the cost was paint work. If you want a decent paint job, it’s expensive. The BMWs may be on another level in some regards, but a good quality paint job is expensive regardless.

Well to be fair, that’s the bumper and the hatch, mine was just a portion of the rear right fender. Either way for us it didn’t matter because the other person was at fault and had to cover it.

Expensive, yeah, but if I only had him fix the rust on the rear quarter and then bought a used replacement hatch in great shape rather than get the hatch rust fixed, it would’ve apparently been close to the same price...

Yup, my accident damage / the repainting on the rear hatch from the last shop doing crappy prep work on their paint work was what caused this rust. When they first did their work, it looked great...fast forward to now and it was rusting when the factory original/never been touched drivers’ side rear quarter is perfect with no rust anywhere...
